Cotton Project’s runway show at São Paulo Fashion Week n45 was the first in the event’s history to have a live performance as an integrated part of the show’s cenography. Invited by the brand, Marcelo Gerab produced and played the music according to the narrative designed by creative director Rafael Varandas.

Conceived around the theme “How to leave your old life behind”, the Autumn/Winter 2018 collection was inspired by an aesthetic found outside of urban environments, and established its concept on a rereading of the topics that affect the consciousness of contemporary youth, bringing out the need to reinvent the tools we use to deal with social and psychological issues in large cities.

The music follows down a path that mixes together bucolic and rural elements with electronic sounds more associated with urban centers. Samples of acoustic guitars and sequenced piano licks were layered over synthesizers and drum machines controlled live by Gerab through digital tools, so that the structure could be manipulated in real time.
